Do online grades increase or enhance student achievement? Do you think it's a helpful or hurtful feature? What are some of the pros and cons?

They increase student responsibility. It is easy for me to tell a child to see if they're missing work. It's a good way also to communicate to parents. Essentially, that's what parents want to know
As a special ed. teacher, it helps me to keep track of all the IEP kids missing assignments and test scores in all classes. I also think the kids like the feedback and "supportive parents" appreciate the ability to see grades and progress at any time, not just midterms and final reports.
Students are able to check on their grades often - which is nice! It helps them to keep up with assignments, too, especially if they have been absent. Recently I declined the offer from my son's high school to have access to his web grades - he's old enough to be responsible for himself! (Which reminds me, when my children were in 7th Grade, I considered them old enough to be responsbile for themselves!)

As a parent of Westlake students I think it is awesome that I can check the progress of my kids on any given day!
